I’m a big fan of the Pistachio Almond, so when Almond Chip made its brief appearance I made sure to scoop up a pint for myself. And all my friends had been going wild over the Blueberry Pomegranate, so I packed up one of those as well.

After a dinner party last night, I plated our dessert:

That makeshift double-mini almost mirrored the flavors of the muffins I had made earlier that afternoon: multigrain banana muffins with pistachios, cranberries and golden raisins. My guests were totally floored, mostly thanks to my heart shaped muffin pan and their chance to eat some of our more coveted flavors.

The other day I packed some pints for a customer, Molly, who told me she was planning on using her pints of Sweetart Strawberry and  Velvet Vanilla for an ice cream cake. I asked her to send me pictures of the finished product and it came out beautifully!

Molly thinned the ice cream slightly with a bit of cream and used it to frost the sponge cake.

There’s nothing like a root beer float. Next time you’re in Blue Marble you should try the classic concoction our way—Velvet Vanilla in Virgil’s Root Beer. But we have so many other flavors of ice cream to drop into any of the Reed’s sodas we stock that it’d be a shame to stop there.

The other day I walked through the Slope and into the Heights to make some floats with Carolyn, manager of our Underhill Avenue location. She demonstrated the Ginger Bomb for me: Reed’s Extra Ginger Brew with our Gentle Ginger ice cream.

Ginger addicts will love it. And if you’re not the type who regularly snacks on candied ginger until your sinuses are cleared and your eyes water, don’t fear the Ginger Bomb—it’s loaded with snappy ginger flavor, but the richness of the Gentle Ginger keeps it from being overpowering.

One float wasn’t enough for me, so Carolyn also floated Dulce de Leche in China Cola, (think Coca Cola with spicy notes from the addition of Chinese herbs and none of the cloying artificial stuff).

Since then, I’ve found it hard to stop myself from floating:

• Blue Marble Dark and Stormy – Drunken Rum Raisin in Extra Ginger Brew
• Red Eye Float – Cafe Au Lait in China Cola
• Spice Float – Cinnamon and Gentle Ginger in Root Beer

I could go on, but I’ll leave further experiments up to you.

Blue Marble’s delicious coffee blends are roasted in upstate New York – where all good things are made. Situated in Millerton, New York, Irving Farm Coffee Company is a part of the historic Coleman Station neighborhood, of dairy fame in days of yore. In fact, Irving Farm is just a stone’s throw from where Blue Marble’s own unique ice cream is mixed up in small batches.

Coffee beans are actually the seeds of ripe, red cherries that grow on coffee trees. Estate grown beans are shipped to Irving Farm for a premium roasting process that involves a studied analysis for each bean, based on origin and growing environment. Coffee is hand blended and roasted fresh daily before it travels to our shops in Brooklyn for a likewise fresh and daily grinding.

…And you can still warm up without the buzz! Don’t miss our hot chocolate: blended with homemade fudge from Saratoga Springs – another upstate favorite! Sundae’s Best originated from a family recipe that was once distributed only to lucky friends and neighbors in the Saratoga hills. Blue Marble is proud to blend it with our own local, grass fed dairy for the perfect winter cure – topped with whipped cream.

Did you know that up to 40% of bottled water is just reprocessed tap water? Bottled water is not tested by any government agency. Meanwhile, NYC’s drinking water is some of the cleanest, most heavily regulated in the country. Check out the free, annual water quality report published online.

The inspiration to be bottled-water-free came from the fabulous film ‘Flow’. Check out their website for theatre information, or put it at the top of your Netflix list. Other great resources for water enlightenment include Take Back the Tap and Food and Water Watch.

To make the change easier for all you thirsty folks, we offer cups of water for 25 cents – although we are promoting the fact that water is free, our biodegradable cups, unfortunately, are not! Save money by bringing in your own reusable cup or mug, and we’ll fill it up as many times as you like at no charge.

What did you say? You don’t have a reusable mug? Then it’s high time you saved yourself some money and took some plastic off the streets.
