as soon as you dream it, it’s done.

Odile Gakire Katese,

Butare, Rwanda

Our dream is to create joy and prosperity through the unlikely medium of ice cream. In 2008-2020, we built and helped sustain ice cream shops with women in Rwanda and Haiti to catalyze economic progress and community vitality. In 2021, we turned our focus to our local community.

From 2021-2023, were privileged to commit a percentage of sales from scoop shops and private events to The Brotherhood Sister Sol organization. Founded in 1995 and based in Harlem, The Brotherhood Sister Sol (“BroSis”) provides comprehensive, holistic, long-term support services and state level advocacy to youth across New York City.

For over 25 years, the BroSis has been at the forefront of social justice, educating, organizing and training to challenge inequity and champion opportunity for all. With a focus on Black and Latinx youth, BroSisis where young people claim the power of their history, identity and community to build the future they want to see. Through around-the-clock support, wraparound programming and far-reaching opportunities, BroSis makes space for young people to transform their lives and their communities. By training educators across the nation and around the world and organizing a community of change agents, BroSis builds on its legacy of youth-led activism to realize a more just and equitable future.

When Covid impacted NYC, BroSis established a food pantry that served over 680K meals to over 20K people within the local community. Now, their youth-run Farmer’s Market sells over 4 tons of fresh and healthy food to local residents and educates residents on the importance of healthy lifestyles. BroSis is a model for the nation, providing intensive youth development programming, organizing for social justice and training educators on their model. We thank BroSis for making New York City a sweeter place.

In 2010, we partnered with a group of women in Butare, Rwanda to build Inzozi Nziza (Sweet Dreams), their town's first-ever ice cream shop. Since opening, Inzozi Nziza has trained and employed dozens of women, supported countless local farmers and producers and provided the Butare community with a place to connect, indulge and revive. Today, the shop is 100% self-sustaining and owned outright by our Rwandan partners. A beautiful, critically-acclaimed documentary film, titled Sweet Dreams, chronicled the making and impact of this special shop. Watch the trailer here, and look for the full-length film on HuluAmazon and iTunes.

In 2015, we were invited by two Haitian friends to collaborate on a Rwanda-inspired shop in their community. Together, we worked to replicate this innovative model of empowerment, development and recovery in Port au Prince, Haiti. With these partners, we built Bèl Rèv. Please visit the Blue Marble Dreams website to learn more.

The work of Blue Marble Dreams would not be possible without the generosity and goodwill of our many friends, customers and supporters. Special thanks to our major funders and sponsors, including the Clinton Foundation, NRGJetBlue, the Segal Family Foundation, the Edmund and Betsy Cabot Family Foundation, TriBeCa Pediatrics' We Care for Your Kids Foundation, the International Foundation, Retail Design Institute, and Billy C.
